First Steps

Although I had to work today, thanks to my new camera, a Sony NEX-3, I was able to grab a few street shots on my way to and from work, so the day wasn't totally wasted. I'm still getting used to the camera (its only two days old), and shooting at a 16mm focal length. That's quite a bit wider than I'm used to, as I usually shoot with my 50mm lens when I'm out and about, but I'm starting to get the hang of it, and its forcing me to get closer to people before I can take the shot. For this I'm thankful that the shutter is far quieter on this camera than on my DSLR.

If You Go Down To The Woods Today

Laura and I just got back from a short walk around Bestwood Country Park. Its always nice to get out of the house for a little bit, especially when you can go and take photos too!

A Summer's Day

It's been a lovely day today, there were many people out enjoying their Sunday under the scorching sun, so I was out with my camera.

Koike Course 2011 - Part 2

As promised, here are some more photos from last nights course. Enjoy!

Koike Course 2011 - Part 1

Last night Koike Sensei taught a two hour course here in Nottingham. Many people who travelled to York for Sunday's course also managed to make it to the Dojo which lead to a reasonable turn out. Koike Sensei, as ever, managed to engage the class right from the start, and gave them a few laughs along the way. It was a great session for the kids as well as he adults and everyone left with a smile on their face having thoroughly enjoyed the session. Here are the first few of my photos from the course. More will follow shortly.

Preview

Just a quick preview of of the photos from tonights course with Koike Sensei. More to come tomorrow.

Fathers Day 2011

As you are probably aware, yesterday was Fathers Day. I went round to see my Dad, and we all went for a walk through the park to the pub. On the way back the Sun was breaking through the clouds as it got a little lower in the sky which made for a couple of nice photos. My favourite shot is the one of the couple sat on the bench together overlooked by the tree. At my Dad's request I also tried to snap a few shots of Bumble (the family dog), a rather quick and nimble Cross-Terrier.

One last thing. Yesterday the world lost a great man, The Big Man - Clarence Clemons. As the saxophonist in Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band, his music has touched many people, myself included, and was viewed by most of those as one of the most talented saxophonists around. My thoughts go out to his wife, his kids, and to Bruce and the rest of the E-Street Band.

Sensei Yutaka Koike & Sensei Alan Campbell

This coming weekend Sensei Yutaka Koike - 5th Dan will be teaching a course with Sensei Alan Campbell - 6th Dan at JKS Haxby and Selby. Its definitely a course to try and get to for any karate-ka out there of any age or grade. For information on the course, visit: http://selbyshotokankarateclub.blogspot.com/2011/04/york-jks-course-and-grading-19th-june.html

For the past two years the course has been held here at Seibukan Karate Club in Nottingham and I have photographed it, in-between training of course. This year unfortunately, I can't train because I'm trying to rest my injured ankle in the hope that it won't be like this for the rest of my life, however Sensei Koike will be teaching a session at Seibukan on the Monday evening, so I will be there with my camera to document it as normal.

The photos below are some of Sensei Koike  and Sensei Campbell which it took over the past few years.
